A.                Planning Department 2008

Reviewed the recommendation that was within the November 5, 2007 memo.

Over the past month, a committee consisting of Charlie Griffith, John Harding, Rich Myers and Tim Schumm has been discussing the need of hiring a Planning Director.  This committee has discussed the issue with the Planning Commission and Regional Water & Sewer District and will be meeting with the Commissioners to discuss the issue.

It is this committee’s recommendation that a full-time Planning Director be hired that would also be able to assist the Regional Water & Sewer District.  Ideally, the person would have experience in planning and an understanding of water and sewer issues.  The Planning Director would be under the Commissioners, as in the past.

As for office space, the Planning Director’s office could operate out of the current EMS office, once that office space becomes available.  It is believed that his space will be available in mid-2008.  Before the space becomes available, the Planning Director could work out of the Engineer’s Office temporarily.  Due to space constraints, the Engineer’s Office could not be a permanent location for the Planning Director.

A meeting with the Commissioners has been scheduled for Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 9:00 am to discuss the hiring of a Planning Director.
